Katja Hensel was born in 1967 in Hamburg, where she studied theatre at drama school. She was a co-founder of the Labaolavache Ensemble, and produced some of her own plays which went on to be performed at numerous national and international festivals. In Quebec, she worked with Jaques Lessard and Lou Simard on an adaptation of a play by Gertrude Stein, and acted in it for many years. There followed a number of engagements, for instance at Theater Freiburg, Schauspielhaus Hamburg, Schauspielhaus Zürich, the Sophiensaele Berlin, and Theater Bremen. She is currently living in Berlin, working as a freelance writer, actress and teacher. She writes plays for children, young people and adults.
