Besuch aus Tralien - Visit from Down Under
1W - 2M - 1 puppet; for the age of 8+; WP: Schauburg Munich, 13/04/2018 (dir. by Rüdiger Pape)
Pete has gone to Australia as an exchange student. On his behalf Dave comes into the small German family. Dave does not only look odd, but he behaves odd as well. He likes lying in the garden pond, has fairly rough manners of eating and also doesn't speak a word. His exchange parents try to be understanding for the strange and the stranger. They feel fulfilled in their role as mediators between the cultures. They enthusastically introduce Dave to the local customs, including the football stadium. But the success is little, Dave reamins silent. Also the more and more uncivilized news of Pete from "Down Under" can't help his parents to find the right track. On the contrary, for getting a better understanding of their strange guest the parents finally try to become like him. And there you go! A splendid lively day in the swimming pool finally makes them come close to each other. But then they discover something terrible: Dave is a crocodile!
The desperate attempts of the parents to build a harmonic unity with the strange guest are bitterly funny, because the obvious is simply failed to be seen. But they moreover reveal a fundamentally wrong understanding of integration. For unity doesn't come with equalizing, denial or suppression of opposites, but with the constantly new, critical mediation of the specialty of every individual with the general ways of society.
