Dorky’s Lucky Day
3 f – 2 m; age 5+; first production: Stadttheater Gießen
Dorky is always unlucky. He has only just been hired by Lampright, the lampmaker, when whom should he meet but Gwendolyn! She strongly disapproves of Lampright’s new business idea for a glow-worm lamp and immediately sets about releasing all the tiny creatures from their jars. And of course it’s Dorky who has to take the blame for their loss. Penniless and without work, he now trudges through Stone Pine Forest, which is growing darker and darker as the mountain beyond the wood grows larger and larger. This has everyone very worried because soon no plants will be able to thrive in the mountain’s cold shadow. That’s why the King’s messenger instructs Gwendolyn to take offerings to the great spirit of the mountain in a bid to appease him. Luckily, Dorky comes to her rescue when she runs into trouble in the forest. With the help of the pretty Flutter Fairy, the rather simple Stonemunk and a bright-spark candle goblin, the pair manage to solve the mystery of the mountain spirit whose angry roars are driving the mountain skywards. In the end, Dorky and Gwendolyn not only save the forest but also find their own private happiness.
