Klaus in the wardrobe or Christmas reversed

Klaus and his sister Claire are neglected by their parents because these are either busy with themselves or fighting each other in the first place. Playing and tenderness, attention and talking are not happening anymore between these parents and their kids. But all of a sudden another world opens up inside the family wardrobe, where a comedian gives directions and changes the roles: From now on the grown-ups have to go to school again and the children have to earn the money or smoke the cigars. That leads to diverse grotesque twists and a common overwhelming distress, because not only childhood isn't just "baked of excellent cake dough" (Erich Kästner) but the life of the adults can be very complicated as well. When you come out of the wardrobe again at the end of the play, you've learned something – even if everything maybe just had been a dream...

The play marks the beginning of the literary career of Erich Kästner. Since Kästner never found a publisher for the play, it lay – not lectured – in the archives for a long time. The play could experience its world premiere finally in November 2013 in Kästners hometown Dresden.
