A bear in a zoo, behind bars and walls. Day after day, hour after hour, he walks the same old round and feels annoyed at the gawkers. Three meals a day that he gulps down listlessly and that are visibly broadening his hips. The fat bear dreams of freedom! – A crow in the zoo. She flies from one animal enclosure to another, always in search of a small morsel of food. But the animals in the zoo refuse to leave even the smallest bone for the bird. The skinny crow dreams of three meals a day! After overcoming some initial difficulties, this unequal pair become friends. The bear shares his food with the crow, who in turn tells him about the world outside. The bear and the crow both continue to dream. One day the snake lets them in on a secret. This is the start of paradise on earth for them – at least at first…

In his clever new, multifaceted play, Martin Baltscheit explores the question of whether a safe life must automatically be a life without freedom, and whether the so-called "great freedom"” often just ends up being simply a matter of the survival of the fittest? In the end, crow and bear live together – of their own volition and with shared full board!
